Things to Do Near Stamford, Ufford & Peterborough
Once you’re pitched up, there’s plenty within easy reach to fill a day or two — from historic houses and market towns to canals, viaducts and reservoirs.
Stamford
One of the finest Georgian market towns in England, just a few minutes from our site. Independent shops, riverside walks along the Welland, and a market on Fridays. Often used as a filming backdrop for period dramas thanks to how well preserved the town centre is.
Burghley House
A 16th-century Elizabethan house just outside Stamford, with deer park and gardens open to visitors. During the 2026 open season (14 March – 1 November), the House is open Saturday to Thursday, 10.30am–4.30pm (closed Fridays), and the Gardens and Adventure Play are open daily, 10am–5pm. Free parking on site. Check their website before visiting — the House and Gardens close for the Burghley Horse Trials in early September and for winter maintenance.
Rutland Water
A short drive away, and the largest reservoir in England by surface area. Open access, no set hours. Walking, cycling (a 23-mile full loop around the water), watersports, fishing and birdwatching, plus a beach and mini golf at Sykes Lane.
Ufford
The village right on our doorstep, with the White Hart as a solid local stop for food.
The George of Stamford
A historic coaching inn right in the town centre, one of the best-known spots in Stamford for food and a pint. Give us a call on 01733 380687 before you book — we can usually get you a better rate than you’ll find through Booking.com or similar sites.
The Crown Hotel, Stamford
Another long-standing Stamford spot, good for a proper meal after a day on the road. Same deal as The George — call us first for a better rate.
The Coffee House, Ailsworth
Right on our doorstep, good coffee before you head off exploring.
Foxton Locks
A well-known flight of canal locks, about 40 minutes away and well worth the drive for a day out. Open access, no set hours.
Welland Viaduct
Also known as Harringworth Viaduct, a striking Victorian railway viaduct spanning the Welland Valley. A good spot for photos if that’s your thing. Open access, no set hours.
Nene Valley Railway
A heritage steam and diesel railway running through the Nene Valley towards Peterborough, based at Wansford. It doesn’t run every day, so check their calendar for operating dates before planning a visit.
Barnack & the Surrounding Villages
Quiet countryside walking country, good for stretching your legs before the next leg of a trip. Open access, no set hours.
